As Senior Science Officer for the Ocean Science Trust, Kiya brings information and stakeholders together to develop solution-focused science guidance for critical ocean and coastal issues in California.
Kiya comes to OST with eight years as an environmental problem-solver in ocean science, policy, and institutional development. She brings expertise in California’s complex ocean policy landscape from four years of service in state-based academic institutions, nonprofits, and federal agencies. As a former Legislative Fellow within the US House of Representatives, Kiya also applies a national lens to her work. She is passionate about leveraging her relationship-building skills, which she honed as a fundraiser for UC Santa Barbara, in order to build meaningful connections with OST’s partners. Kiya holds a Masters degree from UC Santa Barbara’s Bren School of Environmental Science & Management and is an alumna of the John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship.
