Roxanne-Alexa Garibay is dedicated to fostering transdisciplinary dialogue across ocean policy, academia, and communities. With a diverse background spanning various institutions and fields, she offers a unique perspective on communication and marine research. At OST, Roxanne is focused on the Legislative Science Services and Red Urchin Fisheries projects.
Before joining OST in 2024, Roxanne’s career spanned various roles: from aquatic husbandry at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland, to leading graduate research communication with MARINE, and coordinating equitable geoscience programs at California State University, Monterey Bay. Actively involved in MLML’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and co-chairing Future Leaders in Marine Science, she’s driven by her commitment to making geoscience more inclusive for new scientists. Now, presented with the opportunity at OST, she seeks to extend the impact of her work while broadening its reach.
Roxanne is pursuing a Master’s degree in marine science at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories (MLML), where she researches giant kelp biomass loss and reproduction. She holds a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Spanish from the University of California, Los Angeles.
