Lia Escober

Lia Escober strives to bring an interdisciplinary approach to the marine world. She uses her science communication skills to translate science to broad audiences in an effort to bring about applicable solutions for state needs. With a strong belief in advocating for others, she approaches her role with equity and inclusion in mind. Lia is currently working on projects that are focused on marine carbon dioxide removal as well as seaweed aquaculture.

Prior to joining the OST team in 2024, Lia was an intern at the Coastal Marine Institute and Laboratory at San Diego State University (SDSU). There, she conducted and presented research on the relationship between purple sea urchins and their commensal polychaete. Lia also served as a scholar for the BioTech at SDSU program where she conducted research with the ATAD3 protein in hopes to better understand its role in photosynthesis.

Lia is in the process of earning her B.S. in Biology with an emphasis in marine biology from San Diego State University. She is also looking to apply to graduate school to pursue a Masters degree in environmental policy.
