Dr. Nielsen is Executive Director of San Francisco State University’s Estuary & Ocean Science Center and Professor of Biology in coastal ecosystems. Her scientific research focuses on how oceanographic, climatic and anthropogenic factors influence the functioning of coastal ecosystems, spanning the boundaries of disciplines and ecosystems.
