California’s ocean and coastal resources are best managed when science is considered. From scientific advice on the potential to meet climate goals with new technologies such as marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR), to recommendations on responsible advancement of ocean energy development that is mindful of wildlife impacts, to new research on sea level rise, and the adaptive capacity of coastal communities as ocean conditions change, we are privileged to bring science to bear on the issues that matter for California’s coastal communities, elected officials, and natural environments.

2024 was an impactful year for California Ocean Science Trust. While our team worked on a variety of issues, a commitment to science was central to all of our efforts. It is more important now than ever to maintain and strengthen connections between science and good governance, for a better future for both people and nature. As we approach our milestone 25th anniversary, we will continue this work, helping California stand out in defense of science. We extend our thanks to all our partners, whose expertise and perspectives are critical to our mission.

We invite you to read our 2024 Annual Report to learn more about our team’s work during the past year. We are proud of the strong bridges we build between science and policy in California and the trusting relationships we have with legislators, resource managers, universities, and Tribal governments.
