Trusted Science Communication on Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal

Delivering best available information on mCDR science to elevate understanding among state partners and the public

Overview

With gaining attention and investment into marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR), there is an increasing need for trusted, objective information on the state of science for this emerging climate mitigation strategy. Through in-person briefings, one-on-one meetings, science-informed memos, public-facing reports, targeted webinars, and a variety of other communication and education approaches, OST is providing a sustained flow of scientific mCDR information to California policy-makers, legislators, and the broader general public.

Webinar Series: Conversations on Ocean Carbon

OST has teamed up with the California Current Acidification Network (C-CAN) and the Alaska Ocean Acidification Network (AOAN) to co-organize a series of informational webinars on marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) entitled Conversations on Ocean Carbon: US West Coast and Alaska Perspectives.

Through this publicly available series, attendees from all sectors and backgrounds can gain a better understanding of mCDR technologies, limitations, risks, and learn how to become engaged in this emerging field. The webinars feature leading scientists and mCDR experts as they share their latest scientific findings and answer questions directly from the audience on a range of topics. Spanning from ocean alkalinity enhancements (OAE) to monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV), watch the series to learn more:

Slide An overview of marine carbon dioxide removal science, policy, and decision-making Slide A tour of newly funded mCDR projects Slide A closer look at Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement Slide A look at ARPA-E programs to support measurement, reporting, and validation of mCDR Slide Effectiveness of mCDR: MRV of Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement Slide Can Kelp Help? Exploring macroalgae cultivation as a potential mCDR and climate mitigation strategy Slide A closer look at Ocean Iron Fertilization
