Katie Blauvelt works to foster science communication among various communities to ensure that science policy decisions consider all perspectives. She is passionate about ensuring equity in access to science policy information and decisions. Her interdisciplinary experience allows her to approach complex science policy topics with consideration of multifaceted solutions. At OST, she is working with the Legislative Science Services team on harmful algal blooms (HABs) and marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) projects.
Prior to joining the OST team, Katie worked for Live Nation as a Zero Waste Coordinator, diverting landfill and assisting with public outreach of sustainability practices to help achieve Live Nation’s goal of Zero Waste. She also worked for Channel Wind as an Environmental Science and Social Media intern, where she served as a liaison between Channel Wind and Cal Poly to help secure grant funding. Additionally, she helped with the creation and maintenance of several social media accounts to help enhance Channel Wind’s online presence.
Katie is pursuing a B.S. in Environmental Management and Protection at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. Alongside her degree, she is completing a Sustainable Environments minor and a Technical and Professional Communication Certificate. She is a member of the Association of Environmental Professionals Channel Counties chapter.
