Moving Through a Time of Transition
After the departure of its executive director in the spring of 2017, OST engaged an interim executive director and an executive search firm to support the transition process. The board of trustees has been conducting internal planning and strategy work to ensure a smooth transition and set the new leader up for success in 2018.
“The Ocean Science Trust has continued to be a strong partner for the Ocean Protection Council during its executive transition and we look forward to ongoing collaboration with this valuable organization.” — Deborah Halberstadt, Deputy Secretary for Ocean and Coastal Matters at California’s Ocean Protection Council.
“The Ocean Science Trust board is providing engaged and supportive leadership for the executive transition. Taking the time to revisit OST’s internal strategies last summer and fall has prepared the organization for an effective search and will contribute to the long term success of our next permanent executive director. Meanwhile, OST continues to deliver outstanding work bringing useful science to important ocean and coastal issues.” — Nancy Sutley, OST Board Chair.
Strategic Direction and Timeline
The Strategic Direction statement summarizes the organization’s short-term strategy as Ocean Science Trust moves through and beyond the executive transition period. The statement is a result of intensive strategic work by the board of trustees and the interim executive director to assess the organization’s funding model and staff capacity, refine the organization’s strategic direction, and prioritize the qualifications needed in a permanent executive director.
