Kiya Bibby is a science-policy problem-solver with an interdisciplinary background in coastal resources research and governance. As the lead of OST’s Legislative Science Services program, she brings solution-focused science advice to members and staff in the California Legislature. Kiya believes that healthy oceans benefit both nature and people and she values cultivating authenticity and joy in her work. Since joining OST, she has worked on many topics including microplastic pollution, equitable nature-based adaptation, insurance and coastal resilience, and offshore wind energy.

Prior to joining the OST team in 2019, Kiya served as Associate Director of Development for UC Santa Barbara. Kiya was a 2014 John A. Knauss Fellow with the US House of Representatives, where she managed an ocean and climate portfolio for former Congresswoman Lois Capps (CA-24).

Kiya holds a Masters of Environmental Science & Management from the Bren School at UC Santa Barbara and a B.A. in Biology from Lewis & Clark College.
